Where do you get your ideas?
I have notebooks full of ideas, that I’ve been writing down from as far back as 4th grade. My handwriting is pretty hard to read from back then, but I have ideas that came to me in dreams that I woke up and scribbled, notes I made on the backs of napkins, etc. I get ideas watching people, traveling to new places, thinking about events in history, or reading the news. They are everywhere! As soon as you start using that part of your brain you can’t not see the ideas.
Tell me about the heroine featured in Destined.
Remington Chase is a writer, but she only ghosts for other authors, she doesn’t trust herself. Nor does she trust her heart, she saw her mother wither away after her father was killed and just refuses to open herself up to that kind of pain. She discovers that her father’s death wasn’t an accident, then falls headlong into unraveling a mystery, and head first in love! She’s strong, stubborn, smart, but guarded – she will have to learn!
What can we expect from you next, and when?
I have another in the Fated series coming up next, Cursed. I actually have pages of ideas just for this series, so I’m going to write in this world until I need a break from it. I have an idea for a science-fiction/fantasy series that I’m pretty excited about too.
What is your favorite all time book or author, and why?
I am a ridiculous romantic at heart, and I have to admit, I have read A Knight In Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux about 30 times, at least. The first time I read it I was 16 years old, and man, I cried. I wept! My heart soared. I wanted to be loved like that. To be strong like that. I re-read it anytime I need comfort, it’s my ’safe space’ lol.
If you could meet any person, alive or dead, who would it be, and why?
I have a list, really, and it’s hard to choose. Honestly, though, I think it would be Shakespeare. Not an original answer, but his plays are the basis for almost all modern storytelling.
What is your favorite place to travel to, and why?
Anywhere with a beach and a bar!
Where would you go that you’ve never been?
Australia. Fiji. Egypt. Prague. Morocco. Bali. Istanbul. Argentina. Must I stop?
If you could go back in time and solve any mystery, what would it be?
I’ve always been fascinated with Jack the Ripper. Maybe I’ll do something with that in one of my books!
You are marooned on a desert island, but before your ship sinks you can grab any one book of your choosing. What book would that be, and why?
Some enormous romance anthology – gotta have love!
What is your best advice for someone who wants to be a writer?
Get organized, do your research, make a plan, and then really do it. That’s the hard part.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests?
So many. Margaritas, reading, cooking, shooting, gardening, eating, wine, my dogs, travel.
What is a typical day like for you?
I’m still holding down a day job, so I get up about 4am and write for a bit, then get ready for work and hit the road. I’m usually finished at work about 2:30, so I head home and write some more until my boys get home from school. Then it’s a glass of wine and time with my family, then more writing after dinner. Weekends are all about writing unless we have something special going on.
When did you decided to become a writer?
You know, I never really did decide, I just wrote. I’m just now doing something about it!
